The Indian Express Digital has launched a new website for Malayalam news and content, marking the beginning of its expansion in regional language content.

Kerala based ieMalayalam.com will cover stories in Malayalam for its audience. The site will be ad free initially but is likely to have ads in the future.

As we’d reported earlier, the company has plans to launch five new regional language portals. Read our interview with Indian Express Digital CEO Sandeep Amar here.

The company wants to take a leadership position in Kerala’s local language digital news market as well. Last week, the group had launched Techook, a tech review site. It also runs Maharashtra’s largest Marathi news platform Loksatta.com and Hindi news site jansatta.com.

The company says it clocks 75 million unique visitors a month.
