Online retailer Flipkart is launching a gaming championship. The Flipkart Gaming Online Championship (FGOC) will be a month long online tournament which starts today and ends on 11 July.
There will be four games– FIFA, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), League of Legends (LOL) and Defense of the Ancients 2 (DotA 2)– at the tournament. Each game will be played for a week, with three team games of five players each and one game for individual gamers, the company said.
The tournament will be live-streamed on streaming platform Twitch, owned by Amazon. “At Flipkart, we have witnessed close to 50% growth in this category in the last six months alone,” said Adarsh K Menon, Vice President, Electronics & Auto at Flipkart.
The company sells gaming related products from brands such as Alienware, Dell, Sony and Microsoft. “We expect this demand to double in the next six months,” said Menon. Flipkart will give away gift vouchers totalling Rs 1.2 lakh to winners.
