It was a long form story published in September 2016 on the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl from Bangalore and how she returned home after efforts to trace her with the help of social media proved successful.
We have unpublished the story on request of the girl’s family, who worry that the girl’s future will be affected if our story, with all its deep reportage and images, stays on the internet.
Our code of ethics states that we will never take down a story unless it is incorrect. In this case, there was nothing incorrect in the published story. Yet, we decided to unpublish the story keeping in mind the best interests of a young adult.
To be sure, the news of the disappearance of the person is still available on the internet but without the level of detail that our story had.
