Amazon Prime is finally available in India. The subscription service, which will cost Rs. 499 a year to anyone who signs up for a free 60-day trial on Amazon’s website starting today, will include unlimited one-day and two-day delivery with no minimum order size in over 100 Indian cities. If you’re in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, you will get discounted same-day, morning, or scheduled deliveries. And Prime members will also get early access to deals on Amazon, as well as some Prime-only deals. After the inaugural pricing period, a Prime subscription will cost Rs. 999 a year.
The devil, however, is in the details. Even if you sign up for a Prime membership, you will not qualify for free delivery on every product listed on Amazon, but only on the ones with the Prime logo next to them. However, a majority of ‘Fulfilled by Amazon’ products should be eligible for free shipping too.
Amazon Prime Video, the e-commerce giant’s Netflix competitor that is currently available in the United States isn’t included in its Prime subscription in India yet, but it is coming soon. As FactorDaily reported exclusively, Amazon is investing up to $300 million in funding original movies and television series from India as a part of the $3 billion funding war chest that CEO Jeff Bezos announced for India in June this year. Amazon is in talks with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and Yash Raj Productions among others for creating this content.
